Phantasy Star character vote: Lyle-Kara (Sean/Crys)
As with the other poll, I have decided to start the voting for the two matchups that are set in stone a week early. The vote will run through February 15.
Why you should vote for Lyle:
He is fairly strong when you get him. He can equip two staffs, and each one does almost as much damage as one hit from Rhys's sword. He has melee techniques, and is only one of two characters, along with Wren, who does during the first generation. His HP is relatively high to start, and he has a good resistance to techniques. He is overall a well-rounded character who starts off fairly strong and doesn't really lag behind.
Why you shouldn't vote for Lyle:
His leveling up is fairly slow. To get the most potential out of him, he requires a good investment of meseta, which can probably be spent elsewhere at that point in the game (Shusoran). He only has melee techniques, lacking healing, time, and order, and with very few exceptions (the first round in the fight with the King of Cille comes to mind), it's better off for him to attack anyway. He remains an average character without leveling him up a few levels, and you don't have him for very long, so the time spent grinding is essentially wasted.
Why you should vote for Kara:
Kara is very strong when you get her. Her slicer attacks are very useful, as they hit all enemies in a row (especially if she wields two slicers). Her HP begins high, she has decent defense, and she has melee techniques to boot. You also have her for a good amount of generation 3, so it isn't like it's a waste to level her up. While she does level up very slowly, she does have fairly decent growth when she actually does level up, and if you manage to get her past level 13, she skips right from level 13 to level 18.
Why you shouldn't vote for Kara:
Her growth is painstalkingly slow, much slower than Lyle's. Unless you do decide to put in a LOT of time grinding, she is below average by the time you get to Lashute. Her presence means that you have, at most, three people who have Heal techniques, as she only has Melee (and her technique growth is slow at that). In most cases, while not being an outright liability, she won't make the game much easier (except at the beginning when she is very strong). If you DO decide to put in the investment, she does grow, but by that point, your other characters are much stronger than she is because they level up faster.
