Phantasy Star Cave Message Board

I am going to do a tournament to determine the best/most useful character from the original four Phantasy Star games. Since there are 41 characters, there must be two play-in rounds to get it down to 32. This is going to be play-in round #1. Voting will last through January 31.

I voted for Shir because at least Shir can steal. Hugh is not worth the investment it takes to make him useful prior to Climatrol, and is virtually useless after that, since the biomonsters on Dezo can be easily taken care of without him, and he's no help against any sort of robots.

I voted Hugh because he has useful Techniques that are effective against bio-monsters. Of course, you need to grind a bit to get them.

Sure, Shir can steal, but I barely stole anything in my playthroughs. In battle, she can't hold her own. The only thing she's good at is getting the first turn in battle, so using items to attack, defend or heal is what she'll end up doing in any party.

Well, stocking up on Star Mist and Moon Dew is definitely nice.

And the Visiphone is the best item in the game, if you ask me. (At least on console - it's kind of rendered obsolete if you're using an emulator, but oh well)

In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will be me removing my vote (it's my poll/tournament, and I'm the one that seeded everyone, so it's in a way unfair for me to vote), which would, as it currently stands, put Hugh through to the next round.

Voting ends at midnight eastern! Hugh would advance via tiebreaker if nothing changes, but I'd rather it not come to that.

Ugh...I see that someone voted for Shir, which would have broken the tie. Unfortunately, the vote already ended, and Hugh moved on due to the tiebreaker of me having voted for Shir.
