Phantasy Star: The Techniques!

Postby Snorb » Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:36 pm

Heya, everyone! I'm just trying to get a list of Techniques together from the Phantasy Star games- I had a partial list compiled for the pen and paper game, but I was trying to figure out if I forgot any/forgot what they did.

I've got for sure, along with what I think they do:

Heal Techs
(Gi, Na) (Sa) Res: Restores health (And is called Sar for the multi-target version, but each Technique is learned at its base level in the pen and paper. Nyeah. =p)
Anti: Cures poison
Rimpa: Removes paralysis
Arows: Cures sleep
Rever: Reverses death
Regen: Umm... reverses death better? I'm ashamed to say I never got far enough in PSIV to know for sure.

Melee Techs
(Gi, Na) Foi: Lights things on fire
(Gi, Na) Wat: Freezes things
(Gi, Na) Tsu/Thu: Electrocutes things
(Gi, Na) Gra: Gravity effect
(Gi, Na) Zan: Creates a whirlwind
(Gi, Na) (Sa) Gen: Anti-biological Technique
(Gi, Na) (Sa) Gaj: Anti-android Technique (Yes, I know, the multi-target Gaj is called Sag.)

Order Techs
Shift: Improves attack power (I can't figure out if this is more appropriate as a Strength boost or an attack bonus.)
(Sa) Shu: Did... something. My notes say "defense vs attacks" so I guess this could be a Reflex Defense boost?
Deban: Improves defense (I have this as granting damage reduction vs. energy types, but the damn Tech does three things in four different games!)
(Sa) Vol: Insta-kills biologicals
Sak: Heals a patient, kills its manifester (Having this as more powerful than Res, but transfers HP from you to your patient, because instadeath sucks.)
Fanbi: The REVERSE Sak- draws HP from your target and heals you!
Forsa: Impedes enemy accuracy? RPGClassics's descriptions are of no help here
Shinb: Reduces enemy defense (I think. RPGClassics >_<)
Rimit: Stuns biologicals (Knocking someone unconscious is stunning them, right?)
Rimet: Stuns mechanicals (The same comment as Rimit. These two Techs are called in Japan "Rimita" and "Rimite." This does not help. At all.)

Temporal Techs
Seals: Seals enemy Techniques (and should do more in the pen and paper than just "seals target's Tech Point use and harms them for using Techniques")
(Sa) Ner: Increase speed (...yay.)
Doran: Reduces enemy speed (Double ...yay.)
Gelun: Impede enemy agility (which I think might be a Defense debuff for pen and paper terms. Not too sure.)
Hinas: Escape dungeon
Ryuka: Fast travel to a settlement

The Yeah, You're Taking a Prestige Class For These Techs... Techs
Grantz: Travels from evil cities that are too evil to leave standing... or holy damage, if you played PSOnline.
Megido: Kicks enemy butt.

Res = Resta
Sar = Saresta

Therefore it follows that the stronger versions are Gisaresta and Rasaresta (it's Ra instead of Na in the Japanese games). This makes it one huge Resta family of Techniques. It makes sense!
Regen: Umm... reverses death better? I'm ashamed to say I never got far enough in PSIV to know for sure.

Revives with full HP.
(Gi, Na) Tsu/Thu: Electrocutes things

It is that in PSII. In PSIV it's actually an abbreviation of Grants(u) and a light attack. This is where PSO got its Grants Technique from. This makes me wonder where PSII's Tsu family naming comes from.

Do you still need a list of the Techniques you didn't list? Because you got help on the shoutbox already.

I should be good now, Benoit- thanks =)

And thanks to everyone who helped on the shoutbox, particularly CJ and Tanith- they helped solve a major obstacle regarding Sak and Na Sak!
