Phantasy Star: Alisa's Adventure game book 100% translated

Hi everyone,

I just finished my own English translation of this game book, which orakio_rob so kindly posted on his excellent Gazeta de Algol site.

You can get it here. I'm hoping to get feedback on it, so please leave some comments on the download page.

I realize there was another group working on this, but they seemed to have stopped after about 70% or so. I should note that the translation I've posted is 100% my own, done with a little help from my wife. Nothing was taken from the other group's translation.

Anyway, enjoy!

Great work! ^^ One thing though, the text doesn't seem to be searchable -- is it all bundle of images of text at the moment? If so, will you correct this for the final release? That would make for a more readable, more accessible and considerably smaller document!! =)

Paul this is fantastic!!

I will read through it when I get back from work, do you mind if I add this translation to the PS Cave pages?

yumpoptart seems to have disappeared. :(

Paul, does this mean that your Phantasy Star IV translation is finished? Or did you take a break from it to work on this?

The text isn't searchable because of the font. The main fonts are Adobe Garamond Pro and Adobe Caslon Pro, which I've just discovered can't be embedded in PDFs for some stupid reason, so they have to be converted to bitmaps. :(

It shouldn't be too much trouble to redo the fonts to make a smaller, searchable PDF. It won't look as pretty, though.

You're welcome to add it to the translations at PS Cave.

Yeah, I put off PSIV for this project, so PSIV is still unfinished. I'd be willing to hand it off to somebody who's got more time than me to work on it.

I'll be waiting for the textual PDF as well, as I don't look forward to retyping all the text to add it to the site. :)

Awesome!

...the writing is pretty horrible, though. "Well, you are just the most wonderful rodent ever!"

"A young woman appeared wearign a sexy outfit. If you can beat 60 CP + BP column 1H, you can win her clothes (just kidding)."

Hey, man. Don't shoot the translator.

I put up a new version. It uses Times New Roman and Arial. It's not as pretty as the first release, but it's small(er) and searchable.

You can get it here.

Wouldn't dream of it - I'm sure the original is at least as bad. :P

My next project is finding a high-paying job. :)

If I have time, though, I think I want to finish my Javascript game book engine. I worked on it while I was working on the PS book translation, just to see whether it was possible. I actually got it working pretty well; it handles battles, shops, and everything just fine. The only problem is that each scene has to be added/coded manually, which is really time-consuming. Ideally everything would be stored in a big XML database or something, but I don't know if I'd have the time to figure out how to do that.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy the translation. :)
