Do we know...

Postby Daren » Sat Jun 26, 2010 5:20 am

I know it was one of Dark Force's minions that sabotaged the satellite which destroyed Palma in PS2 but do we know where that guy actually came from? Do we have any info on him?

I thought it was Mother Brain that directed the satellite to a collision course with Palma.

Brain fart... I haven't played PS 2 in over 10 years so I might have been suggesting something I wasn't sure about to begin with. but in any case, We know nothing about the sabotage?

Do we know what happened before PS1? a 1000 years or before? Has there been any information about Algo's past?

Read the Compendium, it'll tell you everything that isn't in the games that has been said. It's here on the site, I believe, courtesy of Orakio Rob and Rebecca Capowski.

Through The Profound Darkness' machinations, the Earthmen programmed Gaira via Mother Brain to crash into Palma.

No single character has been mentioned of any involvement.

Slightly off/on topic (whatever that means), but does anyone else think it's completely redonk that a man-made satellite didn't just destroy but explode and entire planet? I've considered that the earthmen and Mother Brain were tinkering with Palm beforehand, maybe somehow messing with the stability of the planet's layers, magnetic field, etc. (Sorry if I sound completely unintelligent here; I know very little about geology and physics.)

Well, having knowledge in Physics, having a Physicist father and a Geologist friend, I can say that Gaira/Gaila/My Underwear crashing on Palma AND blowing it up was a bunch of bull...

If we wanna throw a GOOD explanation for the in-game event, we could theorize the planet itself to be highly unstable, Gaira's mass and its size being comparable to Palma's and that it had a very, very large speed when crashing...

But none of that is explained in the game.

We can safely assume that the writer for PSII knew absolutely nothing of physics and geology, and worse yet, didn't bother to consult. Something that is very common in the entertainment field.

What could happen with Palma, assuming that the asteroid was large enough (larger than one kilometer), would be that it crashed, killed the ecosystem of the entire planet and whatever was alive and not in a worldship would perish inevitably.

But they went for the Superman approach. BOOM! Bye bye Palma, hello asteroid belt.

More crazy teories can be made up.

I agree with you, I mean how big was that satellite? I'll be explaining this as best I can during the process of the game. I always thought that was one of the most stupid things I've had ever seen anyway so there had to be another explanation to it then just being the satellite.

I don't get why people try to explain this. It's obvious that in reality this wouldn't be possible, but PSII is still a video game.

It really doesn't matter in the end but I still think they should have at least explained it a little bit better. Anyone playing the game today would go "what the F*ck?"

To me it has to have an element of believability, and in this case there is none. It's just completely over-the-top. It doesn't have to be hard science; I'm not that into it. However, even as an 11 year-old playing PSII, seeing the shot of Palma explode just seemed off to me.

I intend to fix this little problem in my game while still staying faithful to the original game.
