JPN PS1 for MD/Genesis?

Does anyone here have the Japanese Phantasy Star 1 for the Genesis/Mega Drive?

It's been said this is just the Sega Master System rom in a MD cartridge. If that's correct. How do you pause?

The SMS had a pause button on the console not the controller. The Power Base Converter also has a pause button on it, you can't use the start button on the Genesis/MegaDrive controllers.

Can anyone confirm that you can pause with the Genesis controller? Or is it just impossible to pause with that MD cartridge game?

According to the manual, the Start button and the A button do nothing. I could check to see if the reset button serves as the pause button, but I'm feeling lazy and don't really want to dig out the Genesis right now. It's not like you really need a pause function in a turn-based RPG anyway.
