Thanks to everyone who sent in tips about the new Phantasy Star text adventure ROM releases, and Bob Forgan & Tommy Smith for supplying the files themselves.
Unfortunately, whoever dumped the new games neglected to get good copies of the original 4 (Kinds, Anne, Huey, Shilka). The copies of those 4 games that have been in circulation for years are beta versions that are full of bugs and have significant textual differences as well. It is important that the file names for these 4 games properly represent their pre-release status, so please spread the word to ROM collection distributors and authors of ROM file tools.
Hopefully someday we will have access to clean copies of all 8 of these games in their SegaNet incarnation. Until then, you will have to play them on the MegaCD if you want (partially) bug-free gaming.
Clarification:
The beta ROMs (that alreaady have patches, and are available eg. here at the Cave) are: Anne's, Huey's, Kind's, and Shilka's Adventures.
The newly dumped/found roms, that are not beta, and that are about to have patches released, are: Eusis', Nei's, Rudger's, and Amia's Adventures.
If anyone can help with the first four ROMs, please contact the MIJET-team!
The announcement aside, they also told me that, in light of the SEGA Net ROMs now being available, they are
planning to release those translations first so that any errors in the scripts can be fixed before finalizing the disc versions. Hopefully there will only be a single release that way instead of multiple updates for minor fixes which has unfortunately happened with the other SegaNet games.
The hacking and translation for the kandzume versions is complete, but editing and testing is going to take some time and I am busy with other projects, but it will definitely be complete sometime in 2010.
