A proper PSII soundtrack in gym -format?

Postby Zucca » Wed May 13, 2009 6:27 pm

The PSII soundtrack on zophar.net isn't playing propely with either Audio Overload or with Audacious (with modplug support compiled).
Of course I first checked PS Cave for gyms, but there were only midis.
So anyone know where to get good PSII gym soundtrack?
I would also accept flac soundtrack, but I belive it wiser to distribute them as gyms because of the much smaller file size. ;)

i didnt have much luck getting those types of files to play, and when they did they certainly didnt sound like the real thing.

midi files never sound right either, but some are really close.

eventually i just captured the music to wav file directly from the game and converted those to HQ VBR mp3.

:?

I have succeeded to play other gym -files just fine.

Oh, why just PSII gyms where meant to be corrupted. Damn you, Dark Force!

Hm. I may have to install Winamp lite or similiar that supports those plugins. Audacious didn't played them well with a plugin. :( Actually only Two songs were playable and those didn't sound good at all. I got same result from Audio Overload.
Or maybe I'll just try newer, testing version of Audacious...

If you need Winamp, make sure to download a 2.xx version, preferably one in the 2.90 series. Light, stable, and does everything you need. :)
Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

yup, i used v2.91 lite w/ GYM input and WAV writer output plugins.

keep in mind... these GYM files are not the greatest, and the music is not arranged. it just kinda ends after 60 seconds or so.
some songs are missing a few notes or instruments, etc.

capping the music directly from the rom has much better quality, but requires a lot more work.

I've tried to dump gyms with different versions of Gens, all have failed.

Somebody needs to make a new gym plugin for Winamp: the current one predates some of the phenomenal process that Steve Snake and others have made at emulating the Genesis' sound.

good news....

KEGA can also rip .vgm files. perfectly accurate and configurable, very simple, higher quality then GYM files. plays in winamp with a plugin. even has looping options.

I didn't get KEGA working. It told me to create Kega.ini and set some settings... I think I can get it working soon.
