Well, it'll save for like 30 seconds. But then after that, the files are gone! I know that Genesis cartridges use batteries of some kind to keep their save data. Does anybody know what kind of battery it takes, or do I need to but a new game?
EDIT: I have the GENS program for the same game, but where's the fun in using IT all the time?
[Edit by Prince Noah on [TIME]1089847166[/TIME]]

I don´t know if you can replace them. It might be the case of moving to emulation gaming only.

I don't think they use batteries, I think the game is just saves onto the cartredge itself, like a hard drive or RAM.

I know because I went to a gaming site that said so. All Genesis games that save use a battery or two.

The battery in my PS1 cartridge started to die after 6 years. It began to erase the memory randomly from time to time. I don´t know how it is today, since I have nowhere to use the cartridge, but I guess it´s pretty much dead by now.
I opened the cartridge a few times, the battery is one of those round and flat that look like those used in clocks. Maybe one of those gaming "junkyards" have spare ones.

Well lots of cartridges have funny screws, so they're a pain to open. But you can actually order the screw kits to open cartridges. I found that out here.
Odd that you have to go through so much trouble, you'd think that Sega would make it somewhat easy...

I've opened genny carts before with a pair of tweezers. It it isn't too hard if you don't mind developing blisters. The battery is a regular kind you could find at a radio shack I believe, and I *think* it's the same kind used in a Dreamcast VMU. You'd also have to unsolder the dead one to replace it. It won't just pop out.
If you'd seriously like to repair it rather than replace it, ask at the segaxtreme forums. There are some posts about this.
http://www.phantasy-star-universe.com/
Yes, that's the address.

[Edit by Miles McCloud on [TIME]1089907746[/TIME]]
