Is this what we want?

Postby DaveGeorge » Tue Mar 23, 2004 12:17 am

I believe the reasons SEGA failed were because after the ill-fated Saturn (along with Mega Cd and 32x), most of the fans lost their faith and stuck with Sony and Nintendo. The Dreamcast was (and still is) a powerful system with quite a few impressive games.
If just half of the saturn games released in Japan would have found it's way here, the situation might have been completely different.
And back to topic, I personally don't see why any of the ps-games would need a remake. I know that PSIII has its flaws but that's part of its charm. I rather see a new game about the devastation war :D

[Edit by DaveGeorge on [TIME]1080154469[/TIME]]

PSX was just way more mainstream with all the marketing and developer support.
The games weren't an issue. The Saturn always has had good games. They just came a bit too late in our countries.

I'm not exactly sure why Dream Cast did so badly. I always thought that it was a good system with good games...I guess people stuck with what they knew...
But at least people with PSO version 2 can play it for free (except cost of internet). :)

Sega's fault was alla about marketing, WRONG marketing, they didn't advertise, they didn't imported games to the sates and europe fast enough, they failed to make important software houses like Sqare, Enix, and many others, to make games for their console, and last but not least hype, hype, and much more hype.
I can mention so much good game for either the DC and Saturn, like
Saturn:
-Shining Force III
-Virtual On
-Panzer Dragoon 1,2,Saga
-Shining The Holy Ark
-Dragon Force 1,2
-Many more I don't recall since I'm at work and don't have them in sight.
Dreamcast:
-Skies of Arcadia
-Shenmue (!!!)
-Phantasy Star Online
-MSR (prequel of Gotham Racing)
-Crazy Taky 1,2
-Virtual On Oratorio Tangram
-Sonic Adventure 1,2
-So many more.
And, in my opinion, even if these are a hanful of title, they rival all the PSX super hyped counterpart.
P.S. I'm still angry at SEGA for being betrayed twice.

Sega advertised very well in the US. They even got an award for it. However, Sega Europe had to be dumb and spent their small budget wrongly... :(

P.S. I'm still angry at SEGA for being betrayed twice.

They didn't betray you.

But no advertisement in EU...neither for the Saturn nor the Dreamcast.
PSX, instead, was advertised everywhere...

The only advertisement they made in Brazil was for Master System, and a few SMS games (Phantasy Star included). But all their business here were carried by a third party company, Tec Toy, never directly by Sega, so I´m not sure if it was Sega or Tec Toy who actually did those adverts.

I'd say Sega's problem was focus. They were always more innovative, and put thought in their games. Though they had so many ideas, they didn't know where to focus (example: the european market).
Take a look at the Game Gear. It's a perfect example of Sega's innovation. It was years ahead of the Gameboy. It had a backlit screen, full color pallette, better graphics and alot more. It's sad all that potential was wasted.

[Edit by Siren on [TIME]1080259050[/TIME]]

thank you ill-intent for your answer, I also actually thought it a bit this way: the one sided love story.
I'm sorry not to have answer sooner but I had problems when I tried to access internet but I think it's fixed now.
For the marketing, I agree on the fact that sega was really bad at it in europe. I almost never seen any advertisement for sega's games exept for monkey ball.
For the remake, it would be fun if they had the idea to put the PS2 text adventure in bonus so that we could see the story of the characters.
Add a little more dialogues for all our companion in PS2 wouldn't harm either.

Too bad, III was the most original of 'em all, too bad it was somewhat dull in some areas, ironically, the title who will most defenetly benefit from a remeke, will not get one.
