With "ignore" I meant "oblivious". Being ignorant means not knowing something.

Lutz is the leader of the Espers and a powerful wizard. After the first Lutz dies his successor is essentially someone with a double persona, so he'd notice things.

Well secret societies have certainly been pulled off before, under the noses of powerful & wise people.

Err... at least, so we hear. They're so "secret" that I guess the proof is hard to come by. But it makes for interesting conspiracy theories non-the-less. And I think there are room for conspiracy theories in Algol too. Lutz is a powerful wizard, but hardly all-seeing and all-knowing. The odds would certainly be against keeping such a thing a secret under Lutz's nose, but it could happen.

The dark side of the force can cloud the judgment and foresight of even the wisest Jedi. If a Sith Lord can live right down the hall from Master Yoda without him being aware of it, then a cell of rogue Espers can exist too.

I don't think you can use Star Wars as an anology here. The situation (and number of people) is different.

Some people would also argue that the chronologically first Star Wars trilogy is stupid.

Well the SW comment was said in jest, yet, it does convey a point. Not that I really need to. This is one person's interpretation about how things may have played out in Algol.

I didn't care for the prequels at all when they first came out, but after reconsidering realized I was being obtuse and unobjective. Comes with the territory of being old school.
