The new Rolf's char design looks great in some shots, while in some others he rather looks like he just washed his hair, and the frills in Nei's vest definitely have to go... ok I know many people have Nei in somewhat of a cute concept but... frilly vest?????<p>The new PS1's char designs, on the other hand, look soooooooooo good.

Thank-you, Demon Child...<p>The main concern I have is the story, but since we've been shown nothing of it, I have to focus on what we have seen. We may end up with a more accurate translation, considering the quality of translations today as compared to the translations of the 80s/90s.<p>The game itself seems quite appealing. It appears that developers have kept the grid, which is great. The cutscenes could be good, provided that they are not drawn out and overly-abundent. The sprites seem appropriate. As well, the techniques seem to have been given refinement.<p>The character design: a mixed bag. In the transition, as when you refine or remake anything, has lost some of the style that the original had. Nei, for example has lost the look of ferality she used to have. She now looks like more of a pet. With the art of the original, we had got the impression that Nei was a feral survivor, and Rolf a righteous, responsible and wise guardian. With the change of artist, who has his own way of interpreting the characters, we don't get the same results.

well a good Phantasy Star fan should not take a remake's differences so personally. it will not replace the original. it's just another way to enjoy it.

Yes, the new Nei looks like a pet poodle and barely two inches from falling into the SM pet category but well, after having being bought by Sammy, Sega NEEDS to sell, and sex sells... sex, or "mild fanservice" in this case (call it the FF X-2 syndrome if you will).<p>Yes, Rolf may look older but he worked for the AGENCY after all, personally I don't think you'd graduate from that academy at 15.<p>Rudolf definitely looks older, but personally I've always had him in a "Frank Castle" category of sorts, and so I like very much his new design. It's just rather unpleasing to see what we once knew being a bit warped. The poor character designs I think any of us could handle, so basicly until we see what they did to the characters personalities we cant really say it's been totally warped, which is probably a good thing.<br>As for it not replacing the original, I dont think any of us would try to do that. I can honestly see all of us going back and playing the originals from time to time, so it's not like we'd just dump out the old for the new or something like that.<br>And about it being something to enjoy in another way. Doing things in a different manner which should be enjoyable, doesn't always turn out that way. Kinda like watching an old black and white movie and then seeing it done in color. The black and white was part of it's charm and with that gone it just might not feel the same.<p>I hope what I'm trying to say is understood, because honestly I suck at explaining things. O_o;

Whoever said Nei's new outfit exposes more of her chest than before..<p>Look again!<p>Most of the original artwork of her has her showing more cleavage and the top of her breasts! Also the char portrait shows that much of her chest is exposed.<p>If anything, the new costume is more modest than the original.<p>How the hell can you claim showing LESS is sluttier than showing more?<p>And for you nonbelievers, Read the original project Settei. Since the original chars don't exactly match, the new ones do. THAT Is something done right. <p>

That would be me, and I did look and am looking again. <br>I'm still seeing slightly more exposed than before except for in a single image. And the character portrait doesn't have a V down her outfit that can been seen here http://sega.jp/ps2/ages17/images/screen_2.jpg . <br>Maybe I'm just not looking at the right pictures, but still from what I'm seeing there's a little more exposed this time around.<p>And what on earth is the project Settei? If I knew what the heck that was and where it could be found maybe I'd agree with that last part but until then I'll just ignore it.
