Ambitions of the Illuminas (sp?)

I saw that it was out on the 30th...
Is it worth pre ordering? Will it go fast?
Also, will I be able to play a US game on a UK PS2? What about getting on UK servers?

From what I've been gathering from the official forums:

-AotI comes out on the 20th of November.
-XBOX 360 has it as a seperate download for which you need to have the original PSU disc.
-PC/PS2 have it as a seperate, stand-alone disc.
-PC users can import it, as there's no retarded Sony region protection.
-PS2 users are out of luck thanks so Sony's DNAS verification which'll prevent a European system from getting online with a US game.
-This, of course, makes all kinds of sense since the US/UK/Australian servers are all in the same place, and as such don't need to be filtered. This is just the usual Sony asshattery.

So, basically, if you can't wait for the European release, you might wanna consider the PC version instead, or else it's a 3+ month wait for the PS2 edition.

Still, at least a few AotI features are in PSU already, now, so maybe that'll hold you over, I dunno. Either way, good luck.

I've been seeing some clips from AoI already on youtube... and I'm both surprised and confused at the same time.

From what I can gather, AoI somehow leads to Ragol? There are rappies, boomas, and a boss that's disturbingly like De Rol Le. Atop that, they're using the old music as well. I can't tell if maybe I'm just looking at a seriously improved PSO... maybe blue burst or something... but the vids claim AoI. All I know is that the rappies burrow underground when you beat them, and the boomas are better detailed, and almost twice as big [thought that may have been the character they were using.]

I'm actually looking forward to it.

I can't wait! I'm getting my fiancee to ship me a copy the moment it comes out in US stores, but that still means I'll have to wait a week or two to get it.

Urgh... I wants it noooow.. :x

There will be a sort of PSO mode that will be treated like a Virtual Reality thing.

They sure do use Virtual reality as a scapegoat to make things work in this game don't they? Hehe.

Well, I hope you all enjoy your AoI. I have the feeling this might be it for PSU for me.
PSO (GC) - NEO: HUcast LV 176
PSOBB Schthack (PC) - Redrian: HUcast LV 25
PSU (PC) - Neo: Male Cast Acrofighter LV 161 R.I.P.
PS0 (DS) - Neon: HUcaseal LV 82

Neo.. They used Virtual Reality on Episode 2 you know.. Also in the online quests..

Get off your "I'm so sad it isn't like PSO" kick and see the goodies it presents.

There could be nothing, No boomas to fight, no WHIPS and no more homage to Phantasy star 2.

PSO's machines and dark enemies were PS IV based, you didn't bitch about that.

PSU is PS 2 based.

You will never be happy with any PS game the way you feel Neo.

Be happy for others, not yourself.

I have it! It's mine! All mine! DOWN DOWN DOWN, GO GO GO, MINE MINE MINE! MUAHAHAHAHAHA! *stomps on ground, burying Bugs Bunny*

But a warning first.

Before I installed, I made sure to read the included booklet. Apparently, once you log into network mode with AOI, you will NO LONGER be able to log into standard PSU on network mode. The reasoning behind this is that the original game does not support many of the items/maps, so logging in with, say, the photon whip in your inventory, you'd lose it.

However, from what I read, it also allows AOI members to interact with regular PSU members... AOI names will be in yellow, while PSU names will be white. PSU members can't join AOI missions, and I don't know if it's possible for one to join old missions using new weapons [PSU people shouldn't be able to see AOI weapons or items]

On that note, I'll be installing this now. I'll make further notes about whether new characters need to be made for story mode/online, if those characters can be carried onto online, if mission mode's character can now be used, etc. See you on there!

AoI is a seperate install from original PSU.

When you log in to AoI, basically, it's going to flag you as having AoI and from then on you won't be able to log in with your original PSU install.

At least, I assume that's what the US servers are doing. JP has a CD key you register along with your guardian's license so it flags your account as being on AoI when you do that.

As a note, while I don't plan to get it, I am extremely disappointed by the news of how badly they've screwed up the US release - PC version apparently missing voice clips the PS2 version has, a stat/class leveling glitch from the Japanese BETA of AoI in the final US version that was removed before the JP commercial release... It's like they did absolutely no quality checking/play testing at all. Really sad. The game's already struggling in the US, the EU release date being two months later despite sharing servers with the US doesn't help at all, and now they can't even get the release right?

Shit, PSU's gonna die faster over here than BB did.

Honestly makes me glad I jumped ship to the Japanese version when AoI came out over there.

Could've added a little bit of positive to your post too yanno... :P

Anyway, once more, online characters cannot be used offline, and vice-versa. But it seems they made good use of the character you may have created in 'mission mode' on the original. For AOI, you can transfer your character from there to take on story mode. I think they took into account that nobody really played mission mode much to level up their offline character, so everyone would probably be on the same page when playing story mode.

got it. and i already dislike one thing. the slowdown. WTF?!?! In order to fix it i had to set graphics to 1 framte skip. I can run original PSU full speed no slowdown, but this game slows down when I use the menu system or special attacks.

...it does? Mine runs the same as the original. Are you using PC version? That's what I'm using...
