Phantasy Star Generation 1 Game Information

What is it?

Phantasy Star Generation 1 is a remake of the game Phantasy Star, originally released for the Sega Master System in 1988, for the PlayStation 2. It was remade by Sega Ages as the first
in a line of 14 low-budget remakes.

What's it about?

You are Alisa, a young girl living in Camineet on the planet Palma of the Algol Star System. Your world is in decay as it's ruled by tyrant known as Lassic. When your brother Nero tries to learn Lassic's plans, he is caught and severely wounded by Robotcops. On the verge of death, he tells Alisa about how the world is facing destruction under Lassic's reign, and that he must be stopped. He tells his sister of a strong man named Tyrone, who may be able to help. Alisa vows to avenge her brother's death, and thus starts her quest.

What's new?

The graphics have undergone a facelift, and the music has been remixed. The battle system has been enhanced to include multiple enemies on the screen, of which there are new ones. You can also use crystals in conjuction with weapons or magic for devastating effects.
The gameplay has been improved and given new options, such as the Atlas item, which automaps the dungeon you are in for 100 steps. As for the story, there are now cutscenes in the form of manga stills,
and the characters have been given more personality.

Will it be translated?

Yes, Conspiracy Entertainment has a deal with Sega Ages to release all their remakes in the US and Europe. Conspiracy Entertainment will be responsible for the localization, and the games will be published in the US by Jack of All Games, and by Conspiracy Entertainment Europe in Europe.
They will be releasing the Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II and Phantasy Star IV remake in a compilation called Phantasy Star Trilogy.

What about Phantasy Star III?

Phantasy Star III hasn't been considered for a remake. Why is anyone's guess, but the most plausible reason would be that the person responsible for the original game is no longer working at Sega, and that the game, which was never truly finished, doesn't lend itself well to a remake.

Why Phantasy Star Trilogy?

Sony, the company responsible for the PlayStation 2, has deemed the Sega Ages remake low-quality for the overseas market. This is why the remakes of all the Sega Ages remakes are being released in bundles, of which one is Phantasy Star Trilogy.

When will it be released?

It's currently set to release during the first quarter of 2005.
