PS2, coming with PS2g disk?

You serious? Tryphon was talking about PS2 console, not PS2 game...

I suggest he talks about the game, not the console :D

You're not following the conversation, right?
They have been trying to find evidence of a missing bug between playing on a regular PS2 console and PCSX2, PS2 emulator.
Please, do pay attention to the conversation.

I have played thru the game 2 times and no item drops, also I didn't play it in full screen so I can keep an eye out for error messages and the only time it added anything was when I saved.
In the french version did anyone get any item drops?

OK, I got an item drop! I used PCSX2 and the prepatched ISO found on this website. The item name is not shown...There's only the string ITEM above MESETA in the victory screen. When I checked the menu after the battle, I had a Monomate, and I never bought anything except for a Knife and a Steel Claw. I got a screenshot with the log file, however I don't think it's meaningful since it hasn't logged anything for 10-15 minutes; it's also the first time of me using this emulator maybe I didn't get it right. Anyway here it is:

Just in case I also checked the Japanese version to see if it was actually intended to be like this (even knowing it wouldn't make much sense)....When I was playing the Japanese version, it showed the string Item Got and then Monomate on the right.

No one noticed because of the missing item name so you indeed had item drops after all. I hope this is related to the crashes somehow, so that after fixing this, they will be gone....

Good find :) thanks a lot !

The hard task will be to locate the routine. I couldn't find a working debugger with PCSX2.

I'll hunt the string 'ITEM', it should not be too far from the faulty code.

Just one question : what PCSX2 version is it ? (my log window doesn't contain so much text, and yours seems interesting)

It's the latest one from the official website since I downloaded it today; it's version 1.2.1, the full installer. For the log file I enabled all the options under the "Sources" tab, all except the CDVD reads since that one was logging something every 2-3 seconds...most likely it wouldn't have been helpful :)

Is there no separate debugger for the emulator or a plugin with such a function added to it?
Through a quick Google search, it seems there are evidences of PCSX2 having a debugger...
https://www.google.pt/search?num=100&safe=off&site=&source=hp&q=pcsx2+debugger&oq=pcsx2+debugger&gs_l=hp.3..0i19.985.5370.0.5743.15.15.0.0.0.0.329.1644.4j6j1j1.12.0....0...1c.1.64.hp..4.11.1314.0.7kWuUjFIzCg
To note... I didn't check any of the links resultant from that quick search.

There were on previous versions, but it always crashed when I tried to use it, and I'm not the only one. Plus, it's much slower on my PC.

There's someone on rhdn that coded a debugger, but I couldn't compile the emulator.

That's not too bad now, I know sufficiently about the game code to locate most things quite easily. I'm just a little bothered here because the item drop is random, and testing won't be easy. If I can locate the part that triggers the drop (there must be a call to the random number generator, but I don't know where it is) so to make the game drop items everytime, it'll be doable.

For the moment I lack time, but I'll give it a try ASAP.

I guess a more effective reverse engineering could come in handy now... 8-)

And along the way, PSg:1 could take advantage of the ride...

The "Item got" (not the "Monomate") was in japanese or in English ?

Japanese....The "Item Got" was my translation; I thought it would be better than posting the Japanese string. I can post the Jap string here if needed: it's 獲得アイテム
