Like a few others, I've created this account to thank Kyence for the amazing work on this project! I hammered through the game in Japanese last year using my terrible command of the language, but I'll be looking forward to playing through it again in english :)

I just read the news that work on G2 is under way. If its of any assistance, I worked out the hex values to hack the game when loaded up in PCSX2 a few years back to artificially boost levels and stats (I was lacking the time to grind my way through the game by the time I hit the Yellow Dam, and I figure I finished the original back in 1993 or 1994, so I've put in the ha yards previously :P). The original instructions were put together to demonstrate how to take an existing save file off your PS2, load it to a USB, integrate the save file into a PCSX2 memory card image and load it up in PCSX2, then hack the hex values using Cheat Engine and save the file, close off the emulator and re-export it back to your PS2.

I figured using the hacks would make it easier to bug check spell names and items of items and stuff as part of the testing process. By bumping your levels and stats into crazy figures would also make it easy to progress through the game without worrying about getting knocked about by the difficulty level. The game doesn't crash if you break your individual stats above 999, but I didn't test much beyond that.

Anywho, the guide's up on GameFAQs. I've also got most of the hex values for G1 if you want to use the same principles on that one. Oh, and I also made some notes of getting through some of G1, but I don't know how my translations hold up of some of the names with this new translation, so apologies if it's out of whack!

Can't wait to hear more good news for G2 :)

@MangledLeg Excellent! Do you mind if I add the save game hacking guide to the PSG2 section here at PS Cave?

EDIT: Never mind Sean, I just remembered that I asked you this years ago - it is already on PS Cave I am currently reading your nostalgic blog entry about Phantasy Star II, love it!

Ah cool, funny how these things happen - just stumbled across my FAQ on here myself! Glad I fired through a reply to your original request as I don't check that old email account too often.

Thanks for the kind words about my wordy retrospective too - PS2 was amazing to play through again, especially with those multipliers to take the sting out of grinding :)

If anyone needs a hand with the hacking process, happy to help out. It's not too tricky, just a little convoluted, especially when carting save data back to your console. I've been meaning to make a video tutorial, the problem at this stage is a lack of free time!

Hi Kyence, Im happy If my uncomplete Ph.Star Gen 2 generation translation can be a help. If you begin with a translation or patch please inform me. I will then overwrite/revise my part. There is so much unfinished or need a better formulation. I have not so much time, but I will be able to finish my part in a much better way. I was a bit ashamed to release it in that condition.

And hey, thx for your great work to realize the Ph.Star 1 patch. Incredible work, I like superwomen! I would be lucky to be a part of your Ph.Star Gen 2 translation/patch project.

Looks great! I sent you an e-mail earlier today about finding the codes to modify the spacing in both the dialogue and menus for G2. Of course, the status screen has some special right-justify formatting while every other menu is left justify, so it causes some odd formatting (GAH!)

It is so much fun working with people who know how to program! Thanks, Tryphon!

I, too, registered an account specifically to express my immense gratitude to everyone who made this translation both possible and available. I've been waiting a very long time to finally get to play a 10 year old remake of a 25 year old game that is very dear to my heart, and it was well worth the wait. So thank you. :D

I also want to thank Kyence for this excellent Translation of Phantasy Star Generation 1! Thank you sooooooooo much!

I was able to use the patch with Delta Patcher and apply it to an ISO I made of my original copy of the Japanese PSG1. And I was so amazed when it worked on my modded North American Playstation 2!
I've been playing for about 4 hours and now I'm trying to get the cake as a gift for the governor.
I have to say that even in English getting the road pass is really hard! It took me forever.

I made a post on my wordpress site about this translation and I'm going to make a another one explaining what I did to get to play on the SP2. It was very easy and I'm sure a bunch of you have done this already.

Not a lot of people check out my blog but I'm spreading the word as best I can

OK guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this comment. I'm stuck... and I'm worried that it might be because of the translation (just speculating right now).

Like I said in my post before this I'm currently trying to get the cake for the governor. When I speak to Mary in Parolit she just keep saying there's a hidden town south of here (something like that). And she'll say the same thing again even after I use the 'say' option to get the party to talk about what's next. When I use 'say' Myau says let's go see Mary (something like that). I have the key to access the governors place and I have seen the butler robot.

The walk through I found here says:
" Leave Eppi and go to Parolit to talk to Mary (メアリー). She's usually near the city hospital. After talking to her you will receive a key to go to the Naula cave."

I'm pretty sure I've done everything i need to. And because Mary doesn't have two dialog options like many NPC's I'm worry that she can't give me the key.

Has anyone else been playing the translation on the PS2 and has gotten past this part?

I'll admit I could be wrong and I'm really hoping I just missed something.

Thanks all!

First, thank you for all of the wonderful compliments from those who have signed up on this forum! I am glad that so many people are enjoying the game.

TheSegaDude: One downside to the remake is that there is a lot more linearity in the game: you have to talk to certain people at certain times to unlock events. This is due to the programming, not the translation.

Things I can recommend trying: Did you get Odin yet? Did you go to Eppi? Did you speak to the elder until he repeats his words? If this doesn't work, I would speak to everyone in Paseo, Eppi, and Scion, then talk to Mary again.

Good luck!

@TheSegaDude I'm running it off the ps2 with no problems. What you are experiencing is questionable programming choices from 3D AGES. Follow Kyence's advice. Backtrack a little and make sure you spoke to all the necessary NPC's multiple times.

@Kyence, @Dr. Gonzo

Thanks guys you were both correct. I'm sorry I didn't have more faith

I went back to Eppi and spoke to Hashim again and kept talking to him and using the 'say' feature until he start repeating himself. When I went back to Mary she gave me the key for the Cake cave.
This really was just the mechanics of the game and had nothing to do with the translation.

I'm really enjoying it! Thanks again!

@Kyence I have a question about the translation.

It's nothing big, I'm just getting sucked into the details because of how much I'm loving this.

In the introduction this struck me as a possible contradiction:

Nero:

"Working alone, I learned of his
plans... he found me...

I don't have much longer...
Alis, find a man named Odin.
He is a rebel, too..."

He says Odin is a rebel 'too'. That would imply that Nero was not working alone. Or was Nero saying that on that particular mission when he learned of Lassic's plans and he was along at that time?
Or was Nero going to say something in addition before he passed?

He is a rebel, too... much time has been lost...
He is a rebel, too... much at risk...
or
He is a rebel, too... <<something something something>>...

See what I mean? I don't think we need a correction I'm just curious about your thoughts on it. From reading the forms it's clear you put a lot of thought and time into translating the text.
And I'm still really hyped up at the moment. This is still very new for me :D

It's often seen in modern underground movements for multiple people to work independently towards the same goal; they are sometimes aware of each other but for various reasons do not seek to cooperate directly. My opinion is that this is the case here- Nero and Odin were independent rebels; Nero probably felt gathering evidence would spark a rebellion, while Odin wanted a mystical axe to assassinate Lassic.
