Many thanks for the heads up! I'm seriously thinking of getting one of those, though I've also been giving thought to getting a netbook (the acer version), and their areas of utility frankly overlap a little too much to motivate the double expense. Maybe I should get a slightly larger used IBM-laptop instead of the netbook?

EDIT: Since this is a PS-page after all, how would you decorate it? There has to be a DF inside somehow, at least as a desktop backdrop, but I'm thinking that maybe it could be printed and glued to the matrix holding the keys? Maybe the box itself could be camouflaged as a PSII-style box..?

Speaking of mini laptops, I'd buy VIA OpenBook. I't really low-power laptop with ULV (Ultra low voltage) VIA (x86) processor. Only "drawback" it has is that it's not shipped with SSD, intead it contains normal HD. But it's really how you consider it... same sized HD is much cheaper and it's not possible (yet) to have vary big SSDs. I think SSDs for laptops are sized at 128Gb at maxium. And those disks cost A LOT.
Here are the specifications.

I was considering Via Open Book at first, but then I thougt that Pandora really has everything I need from minilaptop. And of course it's size is a BIG (or a small O.o) advantage.

Hard to say. Possibly if it is easy without change of harming the device.

Yeah, that's definitely an option, but I suspect it will be more difficult to find a retailer. Also, a pricetag would be nice... :)

I think it's doable. I've got an old monochrome pre-pentium laptop which I can try it out on. I'll let you know... ^^

I found an interesting device that has more features than Pandora.
Of course it's much more expensive. It may not be as good as Pandora as gaming console, but still worth to look at: http://miubit.com/eng/03_pro/pro_01.php

Some new development:

But, oh well, we did learn a lot - and now, after 2,5 years designing the system, the end of the trip is coming to an end. All thanks to you guys! Without your support, all this wouldn't have been possible!
Stay tuned for final prototype pics within this month!

So, here is a mini-roadmap:
* Case Design: January 15th
* Case Prototyping: approx. 1-2 weeks later
* Final production and delivery: approx. 2 - 4 weeks later

2009 will surely be the year of the Pandora.

...

Those who want to stay tuned: http://openpandora.wordpress.com

One thing that I'm intrested is if Pandora will have built-in 3G (UMTS) modem, otherwise one need to buy USB 3G modem to do that, which reserves the USB-port. :\
I haven't read anything from Pandora project for a while. But I'll be catching news from now on again.

You're misunderstanding the system. It's not meant to compete with the DS and the PSP. It's an open console for homebrewed software.
