I've mostly been lurking on this thread, and I've decided to voice my opinions.
I for one had very few complaints about the game.
Complaint #1: Techniques.
I wish the techniques were a little more useful. I never had Wren cast a spell that did damage even close to what his normal attack did. Same for most of the other characters. The only really useful spells that I used were the ones that raise attack power, and the healing spells. All the others appeared to be junk to me.
One spell even makes the monsters run away, who in their right mind would do this ? I like EXP and Meseta.
Complaint #2: Shops.
I hated the way the shops were scattered around. You go looking for the last few pieces of armor, you have to travel around all the worlds looking in all of the shops for just the right piece of gear, it got pretty tedius.
Compalint 3: Diversity.
I've seen this complain voiced before, and I tend to agree that when you visit towns, there really is not a whole lot to do, and they all tend to look the same. I hated how the majority of houses were empty. I actually took my time to visit nearly every single house and climb to that 2nd story just to either find it empty, or find some person say something like, "It's cold outside".
That's pretty much it. None of these things really ruined the game for me, as I;ve said before in another thread, I like this game a lot. I love the story line, I love the relationships between the characters and the whole generations aspect. I loved the ability to choose between brides and the ginormous consequences of doing so. Even the first choise between Maia and Lena was a huge choice to make(I made a thread about it!).
The fate of entire kingdoms depends on who you choose for a bride and the children you have. To me, that's just a big dune-esque plot device that I thought was really well done.
I also like the music a lot, even the battle music which people seem to dislike. I admit that weird electric sound is annoying when you are selecting your moves, but after that the music is good, and it changes as well based on where you are or what monsters you fight, which I thought was a great feature since not too many games do that. I also liked the victory music. It was simple, but hearing it often made me smile.
I thought the over-world theme was adequately depressing and fit the plot perfectly. The town music was lovely, the special music was lovely.
Those three minor, very minor, complaints above really do not stack up to all the things I like about this game.
I guess one thing that makes me different from you guys, is that when I started playing this game, I didn't have any expectations of it. I hadn't played PS4 before, and so I didn't start playing it expecting it to be anything like that. Even so many years after it was made, the game was completely fresh and new to me, and I didn't have a pre-concieved idea of "what PS is supposed to be". I think that's why I can enjoy so many different things about it without being disappointed in any way.
I see some people wishing there were more dialoge between characters, but i think all PS games except 4 had this problem.
