In fact, it would be good that even those who don't have crashes give these infos.

I'm getting the experience screen glitch previously described. I've tried multiple forms of a softmodded PS2 in my case. Here goes:
1) PS2 slim SCPH-79001, softmodded (ie NO chip) with Free Mcboot 1.8, ESR beta r9b (for game burned from DVD (converted from a CD)), and USBadvance/OPL 0.8 (for loading from USB)
2) USB (1 TB)/DVD
3) Prepatched

I'm a Mac user, and the PCSX2 Mac port was abandoned years ago. Also I don't have the skill to solder a modchip. So it's a softmodded PS2 or nothing for me.

All 3 versions (ESR, USBadvance, OPL) produce the glitch. Let me know if I need to post any more info.

game seems to suffer from the same issue the sega version did, 2 laser knives > every other non nei weapon. =.=
even the expensive weapons on dezoris pale in comparison in terms of damage output. wai >.<

I received the following email by Fagoti:

i'd like to thank all the work done on psg2 , thanks to the translation pack I was able to finally enjoy it .

At some point I tried your hacking guide but it didn’t work for me. None of the address worked.
So I managed to find out by myself the correct positions that worked on my emulator/rom.

I used pcsx2 1.2.1 and the translated rom from your site.

im sending a txt file containing the address for all the main things to change
like experience , putting nei back, and all the itens along with the inventory positions.

The content of the file was:

Concerning the crashing bug:

Can someone play the game with PCSX2 and repeat the conditions that makes the crashing bug on a real PS2 happens, that is : fight using 'auto' and wait for the second stats screen after the battle, repeat it some tenth of times ?

It seems PCSX2 won't crash, but maybe some red message will appear in the console log (like TLB miss).

If so, please report it, if possible with screenshots.

I'll do the same from my side (I've started), but the game being slow makes it difficult, and the more we'll be, the more we have chance to trigger that. If nobody succeeds, it's another kind of bug against which I can't do anything).

About the crashing bug. It bothers me too.
I've played about 10 hours with 6 freezes total. Unlike the original game, I didn't receive ANY of items dropped from the mobs (even Monomate).
I don't see this feature in guides for PS2g. So question follows.
May it be crushing bug linked with NO item drop?

Just wanted to say to everyone thanks this is absolutely awesome! I can't imagine how much time and effort has gone into this. I never got to play the remake for ps2 so I'm pretty exited for this. To me the original ps games were the best of their kind. I'm going to download and hopefully have time to play this weekend! I can't wait!! I'll be playing on pcsx2 and make sure to keep an eye out for any bugs and keep you posted. Also thanks to the person who posted the clear save data that will help a lot instead of me trying to figure out how to revive nei. As I said I haven't played the remake myself but I heard nei is quite weak compared to the other characters in end game? Anyways thanks for keeping the dream alive!

It's a possibility.

Did anyone get a drop item while playing on a PS2 ?

For testing purpose on PCSX2 : are there ennemies more likely to drop items ?

Are there supposed to be the occasional item drops after combat in the PSG2 remake?
I've never seen that happen for me yet.

When I played PSG2 years ago, I remember item drops being fairly common, even with the first enemies (Fire Ant, Poisoner, etc). Those crashes probably happen when the item drop function tries to give you the item, but fails for some reason.

@lorenzo That is a very good theory. Good deduction!

For the people who made this English translation is it possible that maybe there was some graphic (or something) removed or changed that the game needs to display when you're about to get a random item drop?

I remember reading that some language elements of the game were graphic images rather than text and those images were replaced with an image containing English instead of Japanese. Could the game be looking for something that is not there or not formatted/setup in a way the game is expecting it?

Of course I'm just guessing but it feels like lorenzo is onto something. Thoughts?

Broken item drops would also be my guess. In fact, this is one of the first things I suggested two weeks ago. I've played for 5 hours or so and never got an item drop. It seemed suspect from the start.

On a related note, are there any cheat codes which force item drops after battle? This would make it infinitely easier to debug.

That, or any messages that pops up at the end of a battle randomly. That's why I asked for people playing the game with PCSX2 to report messages in the console when item drop occurs.

I played myself for an hour yesterday and didn't get any item drop (but as I've already said, my machine is weak and can't play the game very fast). I don't remember having seen any item drop during the whole time I hacked the game, so even if you play on a regular PS2, could you confirm (with a screenshot) that item drops occur ?

TheSegaDude wrote:For the people who made this English translation is it possible that maybe there was some graphic (or something) removed or changed that the game needs to display when you're about to get a random item drop?

I didn't touch any graphic file handling routine, so that's not what I suspect.

I changed the text encoding from 2 bytes per character to 1 or 2 bytes per character (to allow more text, since there's a limitation in the size of a text file, and that limitation has been reached twice by the English and the French translations). It produced alignement problems (some data must be written on even address values, which was not more the case with my new encoding). So it required me to change all the text handling routines.

When an alignment problem was encountered, the game crashed on a regular PS2, but not necessarily on PCSX2 (but there's an error message in the console log window). So Hiei- and I carefully played the game to be sure that all these issues were fixed (it was a painful job, which required maybe 100 versions of the game).

I'm 99.99 % sure there isn't any more, but maybe, for a reason yet to understand, there's a routine we never encountered, because it happens so rarely that we didn't notice it. It's even possible it happens more frequently on a PS2 than on PCSX2 (I don't know how the game generates random numbers, it may be hardware specific).

That's why I need confirmation of the fact that items can be dropped, and I need someone havng this occuring on PCSX2, that can show what is in the log window then.

@mziab : yesterday I reread all the messages about this bug, and it's yours that retained my attention. There's one thing that bothers me : why didn't Hiei- encounter this bug when he played the game on his PS2 ?

I have never gotten a drop item while playing on my PS2. I have logged about 4 hours of play time.
*Not including time lossed from the freezing which I would guess has happened about 8-10 times.
