Ah. I see.

Hi, guys! Love your work!

So, I originally signed up here to see if anyone was testing these translations on Open PS2 Loader - whenever I've tested them, they freeze at a white screen just after boot-up - but I see that everyone is well aware and working on it.

Thanks! It's awesome to see a community so passionate about what they love.

If the PS2 Loader issue is ever solved, I would be happy to do a review of the games on my YouTube channel - I'm actually very excited about the prospect.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing :)
I'm overjoyed at the fantastic work of Sandy and the rest of the PSG1 'improvement' team to help make a classic even better!

I'm absolutely loving the new menu graphics and other stuff.

I have an actual 'fat' PS2 with hard drive sitting in my closet (with the cables & controller). I would like to be able to pull it out of storage to help in testing on actual hardware (without USB key or Open Loader or anything else) with an actual disc-based media. Problem is I lack the 'Swap Magic' tool that I'd need to make sure that I don't mess up my PS2's laser or DVD-drive. I'll wait for v2.20 before doing another run of PSG1 :)

Hi everyone. I'm sorry if you hurriedly clicked this topic hoping that Phantasy Star Generation:1's translation was all finished and working on real consoles; I don't mean to disappoint you. I just wanted to say, thank you all for the support you've given the translation, and I did want to let you know that I check this topic every week. I have not yet heard back from Tryphon, but when there are new developments, I promise I'll make a post as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience. :)

Thank you for the updates Sandy/Vivi, they are greatly appreciated.
It is better to hear something than to have complete silence. :)

So, the Collabo Spells Luster Banish and Hell's Gate are both non-elemental, and I had given them an icon labeled [energy] in the code. Turns out, that particular icon is used for thunder-elemental spells in Phantasy Star Generation:2. So, I've decided that I want to make a unique icon for both of them, as I did with several others--backpack, accessory, axe, fang, and status-ailment magic. The thing is, I'm not quite decided on what could best convey "non-elemental," or at least "arcane."

I first thought that a starburst design would be good...
Image [starburst]

...But then I got to thinking, is it maybe too close to the Sol Atomizer icon? (Below example is from Generation:2, but the Sol Atomizer exists in Generation:1 as well.)
Image

Afterword, I pondered if a Star of David would be appropriate.
Image [david1] - Probably not going to be considered due to religious connotations

I was also considering maybe putting it inside of a circle like the important item and healing icons are.
Image [david2] - Probably not going to be considered due to religious connotations

I lastly considered an orb design, since crystal balls easily convey a sense of magics; I also took inspiration from Phantasian Productions' Tales of Phantasia translation, which used an orb to signify "void-elemental magic."
Image [orb]

Does anyone else have any ideas of what kind of icon I could use? The sense I want to convey with this new icon is "arcane, mystic, ancient, and/or powerful." The [energy] icon shared now by Hell's Gate and Luster Banish in Generation:1 has got to go.

Edit 1 - I was told using a Star of David could be considered unethical, so those designs may be off the table. Here are some more designs.

This is ten, the Japanese character for Heaven, suggested by a friend. (It was also super easy to make!)
Image [ten]

Then I made a random emblem design based off the circled Star of David.
Image [emblem1]

And here's a more star-like version of the above emblem.
Image [emblem2]

Any thoughts on the current icons or suggestions for more would be appreciated!

Edit 2 - I also did another star-type emblem just now.
Image [emblem3]

And yet another revision, since I realized that the above looks too much like the Sol icon.
Image [emblem4]

I'm currently leaning toward the starburst.

I do like the crystal ball icon.
And thanks for putting so much thought into these fine details! Very cool :)

Thanks! The post is going to be edited in a few minutes with three more potential designs. :)

Hullo Sandy!

Always glad to see Phantasy Star getting some fan mod love! I, Beldar, approve.

I'm primarily posting here to generate a subscription, but I did want to say what a fine job y'all are doing! I've not exactly read the thread (an oversight I plan to fix right now), but from everything I've heard, it's quite the project. :)

Cheers!

Thanks, WesleyCat.

Here's one more I did just now. I'm actually happy with it, as opposed to all the others aside from the orb. I decided to be more simplistic rather than go overboard on all the runes and designs that wouldn't even show up anyway.
Image [rune]

Personally, I think that it's between this and the orb:
Image [orb]

But I'll leave the others as options for now in case someone else wants to give their opinion.

Current spells this new icon would effect are...

Phantasy Star Generation:1 - Luster Banish, Hell's Gate
Phantasy Star Generation:2 - Megiddo, Revenge (Skill), Sulfur (Skill)

Here's two minor errors I found in my playthrough (Thanks to everyone involved in the translation, I've enjoyed playing through PSG1 and 2 a lot)
SPOILERS ahead

I'm guessing it should be "here is what the crystal does"
Image

Extra 'a' after "I have" (Can't help but read this line with Mario Bros voice )

Those are now fixed! Thank you, Migue. :) Damoa's line is actually meant to be more like, "Here is the crystal."

I like the 'Rune' icon over the 'Orb'. 'Orb' is too plain for those skills (especially Megid), and would be a much better fit for the 'Feeve' tech.

Will there be an alternate 2.10 download with Alis and Odin instead of Alisa and Tylon?

I like the orb best myself. Other options to consider could be some sort of spiral, perhaps a double spiral or a trisquel.

Just got this game running on my real PS2 via OPL - will be testing, I'll report any bugs here, thanks for all the hard work!

@ancapgamer

I got the game loading in OPL just by rebuilding the ISO.

What you'll need (all Windows software):
- IsoBuster - (just use the free functionality when prompted, no need to pay)
- ImgBurn

1 - Use IsoBuster to extract all of the files from the ISO
3 - Use ImgBurn to create an ISO from the files (name the disc whatever you want)
4 - Put the resultant ISO in the OPL /CD directory and it should boot - no more white screen

-- Edited to simplify directions - didn't need DVDscan after all --
