while we are waiting for those results, here is a question...

There's no need to understand japanese, since the command are at the same location in both version. The saves are compatible between versions.

And I suppose it's not too difficult for someone able to get the translated ISO working on his softmodded ps2 to do the same with the ISO of the original game.

For your last question, er... fire ?

To confirm, it seems the random Battle Results screen freeze occurs when playing on a modded PS2? Has anyone had this issue playing it on a PC emulator like PSCX2?

Also, "Water" was translated phonetically as was "Feuer." "Feuer" is German for Fire and many techniques and item names used the phonetic pronounciation of German words. Water was not part of the original PS2 tech list. It actually showed up first in PS3 (but was renamed to Tsu in the English version), but it was first truly known to non-Japanese audiences as "Wat" in PS4. Early on the translation I had pondered about making it "Wasser" the German word for Water, but then decided to let players see it. To be fair, the original PS2 did use some English words for techniques, like Drunk (Doran) and Seizures (Shiza).

So is Aukba known as Aukbar now? I need a list of all the town names on both planets, so I can compare them to PS gen:1's.

@Kyence mine is soft modded.. there is no mod chip. On the spelling of words I just thought it was strange to spell water as it is and fire in a foreign language on a english trans. that's all. If that's how it is supposed to be I have no problem with it. Although changing Climatrol to AMeDAS was even stranger to me lol. I've had so much childhood fun over the past couple days. All of this brings me great joy.

@Tryphon there are many variables to where I can see myself being unsuccessful in a non english game test, but if nobody steps up to the challenge, I will give it a shot either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, whenever I finish leveling and find where Eusis gets his ultimate tech. I would try now but I don't want to go removing hard drives until I get the clear data saved so I can keep Nei on my next run through.

On Motavia: Paseo, Arimaya, Optano, Zema, Kueris, Piata
On Dezoris: Aukbar, Zosa, Ryuon

How in the heck do you get the Strength Potion or whatever? I can't get the guy in Aukbar to give me the item I have to give to the guy in Piata.

I never figured it out. Although, rethinking the situation, there was a Dezorian that asked me a yes or no question, that I sped through with a yes. In my defense, it was almost 3am and I thought I could make it to the end. I got Eusis to level 30 on the Ark and passed out controller in lap lol. He's at 40 right now but I'm not sure how high I have to go to get the best techniques.

Yeah, I remember that guy; he was asking if you revered the Eclipse Torch, as I recall. I also said yes to him.

This is a mistery for me too. It's the same thing in the original game, so either was it intented, or it's an unfixed original bug.

I can try to fix it.

Just finished my playthrough and WOW... The translation is amazing and more professional than many official localizations. GREAT JOB! So very thankful for this successful first release. A HUGE THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO IS INVOLVED!!!

Didn't encounter any major technical problems going through the game. The game's inherent design problems and grindyness, however - is another story, but that has nothing to do with the quality of this fan translation. XD I did see the color flickering/color changing Dezorians and wondered about them.

I did come across three little issues that may be translation related... hopefully documenting them here will be of help to you~!

1. In Roron Dump, there is a native Motavian who initially offers you cake. A Yes/No decision box will appear. If you accept the cake you get sick and your party takes damage. At some point this Motavian changes his dialogue to say something different. He later says "Hi! I found this strange stone in the scrap heap. Isn't it beautiful?". The Yes/No decision box appears once again, but if you reply "Yes", the same response ("Th, that's... I feel terrible all of a sudden...") appears and the party is injured as if the player had eaten the cake again, despite the different context. I'm not sure if this is a bug that existed in the untranslated version, but the resulting text and reaction does not seem correct for when the Motavian changes his dialogue. If you answer "No", it seems the correct text is displayed; I don't remember the exact words but Eusis says something within the realm of context about talking about the stone.

2. "Plasma Field", one of the equippable defensive items that can also be used as an attack item, is missing its "Casts ___" Technique descriptor in its item description. Items that can be used as Technique attacks usually say what spell is cast when it is used; I'm not sure the exact spell it is supposed to be but the effects resemble something in the "Gadge" family, with purple energy followed by an explosion (see picture)
Image

3. There is a line that describes the definition of Nei, but there is a colon within the quotation marks. Not sure if this is intended but figured it should be mentioned if that wasn't the case.
Image

Once again, GREAT JOB(!!), and many many thanks! Years of waiting have come to an end, and I feel like I finally have a sense of closure for the franchise, that I didn't have before. Not sure if I should cry or celebrate... Maybe both are in order! >__>

I can add one more I noticed: the description for the Storm Gear says it casts Zan, but it actually casts Gizan.

skull_monkey wrote:Hi there, is anyone having problems with the game crashing? I'm playing it on a soft-modded PS2. It sometimes crashes after a battle, first screen (with rank letter etc) comes up, and then when it continues to the second screen where the character's XP is given out, it crashes. It just says "individual's experience", with no other information (text boxes for each character). The text on the screen also looks a bit odd - like not smooth. The victory theme music just plays forever with the screen stuck like that.

Unfortunately, some other peoples using a PS2 with a modchip also reported this. Maybe it come from an incompatibility of the game with the modchips (as the few people who reported crashs all have a modchip on their PS2).

Try using FreeMCBoot? It's a thing which doesn't require any modchip to play burned games. I used one program included in it (uLauncher) to play the whole game from an USB Key and never got any crashs.

That is pretty much how I'm running the game (hence soft-modded as opposed to hard-modded with a modchip) I edited the ISO of the game to make it into a DVD format with UDF filesystem and applied the ESR patch that allows games to be run using FreeMCBoot. (basically following the instructions here http://theisozone.com/tutorials/ps2/gen ... -with-esr/)

Did you apply the same patch to the copy you were running from USB? What were your steps exactly?

Don't convert it to be used as a DVD. This is a CD game. Either burn it on a CD or use an USB Key (which is the same as from an Hard Drive).

Here's the method I used (not especially this tutorial but he use the same program I used) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_lZq9ETvg0

But my PS2 was a slim one, not a fat one. Dunno if it change something.

Then, maybe the original game also freeze from time to time when you run it with those methods, never tried. I just know I never had a single crash since the french beta version (previous that, I got a lot of crashs but it was our fault, it was coming from the hacking, but even those crashs weren't after a battle, but after some dialogs. Those crashs were also detected by PCSX2, not crashing but outputing some errors in the console log, but those crashs were reproductible and would happen every time. And with the last english beta, I didn't got any).

I would say the best way to run it on a PS2 is to burn it on a CD and load it with boot cd (swap magic, for example).

Unfortunately, I've just run into the glitch just outside Paseo when grinding for EXP. The after-battle screen froze at INDIVIDUAL'S EXPERIENCE. The music played normally, though.

I wouldn't chalk it up to it being an Open PS2 Loader glitch (though the first game had a minor graphics corruption when playing from SMB), since at least one person, skull_monkey, wasn't playing using OPL and the glitch still happened. DarkForce1376 didn't write what method of playing the game he was using.

If I may make an educated guess, this might be related to item drops. I haven't seen one yet after playing over an hour, so I have an inkling this might be it. Still just a guess, though.

I might try playing the Japanese version for a comparable amount of time to see if I can reproduce the glitch. Such semi-random crashes are hell to debug, though.

It may be related to the loading method; playing on PCSX2, the game ran flawlessly from start to finish, for what it's worth.

I've played the Japanese version for a longer while, similarly to how I've done with the translation. There were no crashes when playing from SMB using OPL, but I might have noticed something interesting.

After one battle when I was ambushed, I got a yellow text afterwards ("半分以上コマンドを使用"). I haven't seen it in the English version yet, nor any yellow text. Perhaps it might be related to the elusive crash? Here's a screenshot: http://wstaw.org/m/2015/10/25/IMG_20151025_155258.jpg

To all who have experienced the random crash after battle: was it after you were ambushed by any chance? Or maybe after a "preemptive battle"?
