I have spoken to Blaw and he gave me the okay to use the French files to finish the translation.

Here's the situation: out of the volunteers I had, one was able to take it up again and one I am trying to reconnect with. My personal situation, in a word, sucks. It's not going to get easier for me, despite my trying my hardest, and I've finally admitted it. There are only six files left in the script that need to be translated. SIX. Three of them are the Dezorian cities. Once these are translated, I can do a final look through of everything for continuity and typos. This final part should only take a month, and if I need help with that I'll delegate it too. The rest of the game is done. And it frustrates me more than anyone will ever know that things have been moving at a snail's pace.

There's a bunch of hindsight going on here on both sides; I should have visited here more frequently and contacted Hiei sooner. People seething on the forum should have contacted me by PM. In fact, I had been devoting whatever piddling time I have this past week to work on this, only for Blaw to PM me this thread to show me how upset everyone is. I will admit I don't want to give up on the project for two reasons: First, it's so close to completion, it feels like a cop-out, and I'm a stubborn mule. Second, it's a personal challenge to myself. I need to see this thing to the end if it kills me, even if I'm only contributing as a proofreader and compiling the files together at the finish line. I sacrificed hours, free time, and after all my health problems, I poured blood, sweat, and lots of tears into this project. On a logical note, it seems stupid for the community to start from scratch.

Here's the best situation moving forward: DarkWraith, I PM'd you this morning. Despite your anger at me, you are passionate about the project and appear to have the availability and desire to translate what's left. I honestly have no ego left to bruise. If you PM me your e-mail address, I'll send you one or two of the files to start with. Finish them, and I'll send more if you like. I don't see a way to attach a file via PM. Anyone else who can translate from French to English, please PM me as well. PM's alert my email, and that's honestly the best way I can be reached. Anyone who contributes will be put in the credits, if that's incentive for anyone.

I am sorry for letting the community down.

Kyence...
I, for one, am not angry at you... At all. Everyone does have a life other than stuff like forums and games...
You've started, long ago, with PSG:1 and, despite your own odds, advanced to PSG:2. That's quite the ordeal.
People should be more glad at the sacrifices you've been making so far than angry at the pace this last part of the translation has been going, it should be clear to everyone.
And you're right, as far as I know, nobody seems to have tried to contact you and simply waited and flamed for your return with positive news. And then, when the first person interested in taking the reins (or helping you out) showed up, some people almost blasted that person to ashes for wanting to do something nobody else even tried to do in the first place.
As long as this project does get properly and decently completed (since a PS4 Remake is quite an impossible dream by now), I think everthing will be OK.

Keep it, Kyence and those who go along with her, it's almost done!

I can't speak for the community as a whole, but you have not let me down. I'm a bit of a newcomer to the PS franchise, but I for one loved your translation of G1. To be fair, I think it would be a good idea to get more translators, but I bear you no grudge for having other things to do. I hope that you, Darkwraith, and any others can accomplish this. BTW-I have been taking Japanese for 2 years continuously, and use Jisho.org for Kanji I've never seen before. My semester finishes in about a week, so let me know if you think I can be of use.

Though I had posted a message but maybe got a problem when posted it.

Personally, I can completely understand the fact that you first wanted to finish it alone, I would probably have done the same. I also know the amount of work required to do this translation, so I know it require a lot of work.

Anyway, like I was saying in the previous message, I'm okay to check the french => english translation if needed (by checking it with the japanese version) if it can help.

I'm even open to do some translations if really no one is ready to do it (dunno if the other guy will be back or not). But as you can see, my english is not perfect, lots of typos, grammar errors, but if there is no other choice and if someone is okay to fix my engrish, I'm open to do it.

For translations, there are some Dezolians who end their sentence with だす (dasu) and some with ずら (zura).

Dasu ones say the truth, Zura ones lies.

Personally, we put a "Je vous jure" (I swear) at the end of Zura's ones and nothing for "Dasu ones".

And there is one Muskat who talks about "dasu" and "zura" Dezolians, we made it say that "Dezolians who swear (zura) are often liars."

Last year was a tough year; looking back at my old emails, I did start getting help from collaborators back in April 2014, so it has been over a year since I stopped translating by myself. It just so happened that we all ended up away from the project at the same time. Unfortunately, one collaborator may not be able to return - if so, that raises the file count to 7 (it's for Piata). I only emailed them a few days ago, so I'm giving them more time to respond.

The Dezorian towns 24-25-26 are the biggies; the others are Esper Mansion and Noah Ship. The Gaira file is currently being worked on. The Dezorian towns are tricky: in the original PS1 game and remake, the Dezorians definitely had accents. I'm no expert on Japanese dialects, so I wasn't sure if the zura or dasu was equivalent to, say, "hillbillies." To be a bit more PC while having fun with the PS1 remake, I made up the two dialects to help tell who lied and didn't. Since I'm a New Yorker from Long Island (New Yawkuh from Lawn GUY-Land, hehe), I took inspiration from local speech patterns and threw them in a blender. I was originally planning to do the same this time around, but time is my mortal enemy. Blaw, if you wanted to translate one of the towns, I have no problem with that. I know your work and it is good  I can fix any typos or whatnot, and as you suggested, be able to reword it with the dialects I used in the first game. I definitely love your take on it, using the "I swear" and then having the Musk Cat drop the hint. Thanks for offering to help, Blaw. I really appreciate it :D

Did wearing the Magic Hat vs Mogic Hat affect the Dezorians' speech in the remake? If my memory is correct, in the Genesis version, wearing the Magic Hat made the Dezorians charge double in their shops.

I am almost done with the AMeDAS/Neifirst file so I didn't count it in the six pending. I have some work-related stuff the rest of the week and possibly throughout the weekend, but I was thinking of doing Esper Mansion next. If the Piata file is confirmed to be abandoned, I'll turn my attention to that instead. Worse comes to worse, I'll split the file's translation with someone. Shinto offered to help, so I'm going to send the Noah file.

Thanks! If anyone still wants to help, please PM me or mention it here. I am making it a point to check the forum when I have free time over the next few days.

Unfortunately, I can't help much...
My French is way too rusty and my Japanese is so basic that helps close to nothing...

Yeah. Without any hats, they say gibberish dialogue (to make it look like a language the characters can't understand).

I retranscribed it litteraly, like :

Code: Select all
// data, start = 02cc, size = 40, pointers = [02d4, 02dc, 02e4, 02ec, 02f8, 0304]
// text, start = 030c, size = 83
[yellow]Vendeur d'armes[white]
Kiraihatoaashideyonabirakkka dasu.
Runntaaddamisokunegunshikubo dasu...
Yohinakukanaaha, datedo... nreha dasu...

If you wear the "bad" hat, they say lies (zura ones) and if you wear the "good" hat, they say true things (dasu ones).

And yeah, the hats still affect the price in the shop in the remake if I remember right.

I either don't really know if "dasu" or "zura" really stand for existing suffix, but after the few searches, it seems not. Just seem to be classic suffix like "da tte ba yo" or "de gozaru".

The "I swear" idea was from Tryphon, unfortunately didn't had a such good idea myself He really polished a lot the french script and I would say the quality of it probably raised by 2 or 3 after his edits if we compare it with my original translation.

I tried to do the original one pretty literal because we had decided that Tryphon would handle the french rewording so basically, I believe we can say at least 70% of the translation is from Tryphon It's like I just gave it the litteral meaning of each sentence and then let it reword it like he wanted, and I think it's a pretty good job so it was the best choice, as he knows a lot more about Phantasy Star than me.

So yeah, I can pretty much do the same with those files, translate them more or less literally and then, you'll just have to do the same work Tryphon did.

I'll take the 24.txt, and if the result is okay for you,I'll probably also take the 25-26.

File 24 translated :)

Just waiting for an old translated file to do some copy-paste, as some dialogs are always the same (save, teleportation) and it'll be complete.

If the quality is okay for Kyence, I can also do 25-26.

*picks up dropped jaw from floor*

This is perfect for putting in the dialects! Feel free to do the other two towns if you'd like.

Translating file 25 (which is twice bigger than the 24).

25% done for now.

Edit : 50% done.

Edit 2 : 75% done.

This one was longer but two hours after, it's translated

I'll do the remaining one (26) tomorrow. And if there is still one or two more needed to be done after, you can count on me :)
