Wouldn't Perseus Shield sound better? It's simply my opinion, of course...
By the way, Kyence answered my PM last night. Here's her answer:
«Yeah, it was a while ago, so I'll tell you what I can recall from G1. In the G1 remake, in the town of Sopia, a Motavian tells you the tale of Perseus (a Motavian) and Medusa. In the remake, Sopia is a Motavian town whereas in the original game it was a human town. Anyway, Perseus and Medusa fight by the lake, she kills him and takes his axe, but the Shield goes into the lake. Apparently the Goddess Nei (not sure if deity of the lake i.e., lady of the lake, or a creation goddess) rises from the lake, sees Perseus, gets sad, and turns him into a constellation that shines in the sky (obvious Greek mythology references abound in this one).
In G2, there is nothing referencing Nei as a goddess whatsoever. It looks like Lutz pretty much says what he says in the original, though a little more flowery. I'm guessing either that the whole goddess thing was a dropped plot point, a late entry in G1 that never got communicated to the G2 production team. Kinda disappointing, depending on how you felt about the reason the name/word "Nei" had such power connoted to it in the second and third games.
As for the Baya Malay thing, the remake mentions a story where all three Algol races spoke the same, and tried to build towers to reach the heavens, but a god(dess? I don't recall if Nei was mentioned here again) got mad and made them speak different languages so they couldn't work well together to finish them. Definitely a Tower of Babel reference here (as an aside, in G2, many NPCs are named after Biblical characters; big change from the Hip-hop and Rap Artists they used in G1!).»
