@SandyLandale Can you give us a comparison image of how the old battle screen looked?

Sure. There's not much different there now other than the font, honestly, but I don't think it'll be too hard to get into battle with another Sharkin.

I also want to say that the problem of having Alisa's Sega Master System name in the new status menu has been fixed and I updated the old comparison as a result. See it here! I drew the pendant icon for the accessories myself. I felt they needed their own, even if the only accessories are the Spell Crystals and the gang's unique mythological accessories.

Edit - Updated the previous screenshot with a comparison to the old enemy name font here, so they'd both be together.

The Japanese name was Kyuara, transliterated. When it comes to Japanese, romaji is my strong point, so I knew that Kyua was Cure. I suppose I could've rendered it Cura or Curera, but I didn't want people to say something like, "Hey, you stole that from Final Fantasy!" (Despite the fact that FF Cura's Japanese name is Kearura, which I think is Carelra?*) so I kind of opted for a slightly more--and at the same time, less--literal route with Curela.

* For some reason, as I understand it, the Japanese FFI on the NES affixed -ru to spell names that would be less than four kanji long or lead to spell names that would be less than four kanji, so instead of Kea for Care, we get Kearu (Carel), Suripuru (Sleeple / Sleepel) instead of Suripu for Sleep, etc. This has stuck with the majority of FF games to this day.

Just went to check it on FF Wiki... Really weird stuff, indeed...
Well, that translation of yours is justified, and I wasn't gonna complain about it anyway, just got curious about it.

Just finished Abion and got the polymetryl. Sorry that my progress hasn't been as fantastic lately; I had been doing what they call a "canon review" of The 3rd Birthday, and I've been making some progress into Tales of Symphonia the past two days.

No new screenshots to note, although it looks like we've run into a serious bug. I haven't shown it to Tryphon yet as I just discovered it.

Thank you for your patience.

Events left to check:

1. Getting to the Wise Dragon
2. Buying the Gas Masks
3. Finding the Shield of Perseus
4. Meeting Master Tajim
5. Getting the Iron Claw
6. Fighting Medusa
7. Ascending Abion Tower
8. Visiting Aukba
9. Raiding Guaron Morgue
10. Going to the Ice Cave
11. Getting the Eclipse Torch
12. Scaling Baya Malay
13. Events at the Air Castle
14. Talking to every person in the world after La Shiec is dead
15. Getting to Dark Falz

...And then comes the beta test once the alpha test is done. Please keep that in mind. I may or may not enlist the help of people for this; PS generation:1 isn't a hard game, but not one you'd want to immediately play through all over again.

Kyence wrote:I was surprised to see Goddess Nei used in G1 myself; I checked the kanji several times and it is the kanji for goddess with Nei's name after it. They reused the story of the Tower of Babel to explain the Corona Tower and Baya Malay. I am curious what Lutz says about it in G2.

Could someone please explain me this better? I've been curious for a while...

I haven't gotten that far in game to have appropriate context for it, but I can confirm that I have seen the name Goddess Nei appears in the script at least twice.

Goddess Nei is apparently related to the Perseus myth, who was retooled to be a native Motavian hero. Side note, but I changed Mirror Shield to the Shield of Perseus, which I really hope fits in the menu space...

Wouldn't Perseus Shield sound better? It's simply my opinion, of course...

By the way, Kyence answered my PM last night. Here's her answer:
«Yeah, it was a while ago, so I'll tell you what I can recall from G1. In the G1 remake, in the town of Sopia, a Motavian tells you the tale of Perseus (a Motavian) and Medusa. In the remake, Sopia is a Motavian town whereas in the original game it was a human town. Anyway, Perseus and Medusa fight by the lake, she kills him and takes his axe, but the Shield goes into the lake. Apparently the Goddess Nei (not sure if deity of the lake i.e., lady of the lake, or a creation goddess) rises from the lake, sees Perseus, gets sad, and turns him into a constellation that shines in the sky (obvious Greek mythology references abound in this one).

In G2, there is nothing referencing Nei as a goddess whatsoever. It looks like Lutz pretty much says what he says in the original, though a little more flowery. I'm guessing either that the whole goddess thing was a dropped plot point, a late entry in G1 that never got communicated to the G2 production team. Kinda disappointing, depending on how you felt about the reason the name/word "Nei" had such power connoted to it in the second and third games.

As for the Baya Malay thing, the remake mentions a story where all three Algol races spoke the same, and tried to build towers to reach the heavens, but a god(dess? I don't recall if Nei was mentioned here again) got mad and made them speak different languages so they couldn't work well together to finish them. Definitely a Tower of Babel reference here (as an aside, in G2, many NPCs are named after Biblical characters; big change from the Hip-hop and Rap Artists they used in G1!).»

If Shield of Perseus is too long, it may change to Perseus' Shield. And yes, the goddess who changed the tongues of the three races was Nei. I'm not sure if Goddess Nei and Neifirst / Neisecond sharing a name was a dropped plot point or not, but it's interesting to think that maybe Neifirst was an attempt at recreating Goddess Nei in a bio-lab.

Edit 1 - I forgot to mention, but I got a full time job, so testing time is limited. I'll be next off on Mon Oct 26 and Thu Oct 29, so that's when I'll try to get as much testing in as I can.

Edit 2 - Shield of Perseus fits! I didn't progress that far, but an endgame save that someone kindly posted on GameFAQs (It's missing the game ID, so it had to be re-added manually.) had Tyrone equipped with it.

I also woke up 6 hours before my alarm was supposed to go off, so I made it to Casba and the Wise Dragon events are in motion.

Sandy, just wanna thank you for the work you and the others have been doing to get this revamp/update out so quickly. Kudos ^_^
If it is at all possible to release a 'text edit tool' somehow so we can change names/items/spells to what we like then that would be appreciated but it is optional.
Unlike some people...I don't demand that you change anything for the release you and the others have already planned.
