Phantasy Star ROM Hacks

Offered here are IPS files that you use to patch the original ROMs. You can patch the ROMs by using a patcher utility, like IPS-win or IPS Patcher, both available in Zophar's Patch Utilities section.

Hordes of Nei

This is a thorough alteration of Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System to make it better tie-in with the rest of the classic Phantasy Star series. Nearly every piece of equipment has a different attack or defense value, many cost more, some items have been overhauled, some are only found from battles with boss monsters. The monsters now come at you in large numbers, so be prepared to fight the Hordes to get where you are going. As for Nei... that is for the player to discover!

Features:

Every single piece of equipment has a use! If something costs a great deal of money, it is worth it.
The restorative spells, (Heal and Cure) and items, (Cola and Burger) are now more potent and require more MP/Meseta to compensate.
All the guns do more damage.
Many of the shops have different items for sale.
The following items are no longer in the game: Wand, Needle Gun, Silver Fang, Ceramic Sword, Iron Shield, Laser Shield, and Light Suit. The items that replace these are FAR better.
All four of the player characters have been greatly changed to better represent their roles in the party.
Alis and Myau have new spells.
Finally, the monsters have all been edited to keep a challenging level of play throughout, including having different combat skills, and nearly all drop more money to buy the new ultimate equipment.

Numan Revolution

This is a thorough alteration of Phantasy Star II for the Sega Genesis that changes nearly every facet of the game. It slightly lowers the difficulty from the notoriously difficult original, it now ties-in better with the rest of the classic Phantasy Star series, with a completely rewritten story, and the great surprise veterans have wanted for over a decade! So newcomers and veterans alike, come enjoy the Numan Revolution!

Features:

Every piece of equipment has had some alteration done to it, from a different strength or opened to use by new characters. There are even many new ones!
All the characters learn more Techniques.
The guns have been given major improvements to be better than many bladed weapons and some award defensive bonuses.
An all-new storyline!
Every shop inventory has been changed.
All the enemies give double Experience and double Meseta in comparison to the originals to speed the pace of the game.
Each character levels up at a different rate, and the weaker ones get massive boosts from level 35 and up.
Brand new monster sprites and a new enemy!

Evil Overload

This is a thorough alteration of Phantasy Star II for the Sega Genesis that changes nearly every facet of the game; all the changes from the Numan Revolution patch, plus a 50% increase in difficulty, 4 new enemies, many new monster encounters, and altered monster abilities. Not for the feint of heart! But those ready for challenge, get ready for the Evil Overload!

Hell Mode Mod

This is a comprehensive hack of Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium for the Sega Genesis. The general idea behind this mod is to have every battle be a fight for your life! Every monster has been edited to greatly raise the game�s difficulty, making each battle much longer, especially late-game. And yes, despite the difficulty increase, all monsters give the same amount of experience, so, welcome to hell!

Features:

All characters have an average of 3 new Techniques and 3 new Skills.
The four "NOTHING" items have been added and can be bought at various shops across Algo.
Many new combination attack possibilities.
Items with a special battle effect have had their power greatly increased.
Easter Eggs in regard to two of the characters unavailable at the end of the game.
New descriptions for equipment that did not have them.

Purgatory Mode Mod

This is a comprehensive hack of Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium for the Sega Genesis, built off of the Hell Mode Mod patch. The general idea behind this mod, like Hell Mode, is to have every battle be a fight for your life! Every monster has been edited to greatly raise the game�s difficulty, making each battle much longer, especially late-game.

The main difference between this patch and the Hell Mode patch is that all the enemies are now immune to instant death attacks and status effects.

Features:

All the changes from Hell Mode Mod.
All characters have an average of three more new Techniques and three more new Skills than Hell Mode; replacing the ones that became useless from disabling instant death and status effects.
All the equipment in the last third of the game has had its attributes raised to better combat the Purgatory monsters.
All Na-level Techs and every character�s final Skills have had the power increased.

Phantasy Star III: Nial Edition

This ROM patch changes a lot. It fixes the dialog to make more sense, the text is actually heavily edited and gives more depth to the characters. Most of the equipment has been renamed to fit more to the Phantasy series, and make sense. (Why someone could wear a robe made out of steel, but couldn't wear armor has always been beyond my comprehension.) Equipment has been heavily edited to be weaker than its original, causing enemy battles to be much more complicated. Shops now sell equipment that makes sense for where you are in the game. EXP and MST has been doubled to prevent building up, don't worry, due to equipment edits battles are more complicated. Bosses have been edited to be actual battles on your hands. Draconia has become a "Challenge World" with fearsome enemies, and all 3 towns have a special surprise inside the shops waiting for the players who dare take on the Challenge of Draconia.
